Painting and Black importance.

It is true that experience is louder than words. I have found that using black in painting is very important in order to bring vitality, depth and strength. Although, Black alone is unbending and solid yet, is very rich in its usage. Just think of the many tones of grays and the rich verities of other tones when mixing it with different colors. This is a complete reversal of what we had been taught in schools.

I have been teaching my students how to use Black properly. “Little wine can make the heart rejoice but too much of it can make one sick” So, using black with certain proportions and applying it to the areas, when is needed, will add the value of a painting.

Simply, what works with black and white would work with other colors. I had done, previously, paintings in watercolors (only in black and white) and in pencil. The results were great for the fact that there was a vast chance to play with so many tones in order to create so much intensity in a painting.

It is a wonderful and enjoyable experience to using it specially; in oil painting which is my medium for many years. I’ve found that Lamp Black works better in mixing colors.

So, briefly, if using White is imperative, so is Black.
